Shockone - Chaos Theory EP

Shockone blasts into the last quarter of 2012 with this smasher of an EP.  I first herd this of a BBC Radio 1 mix. I immediately had to find out the name of the artist.  It features different versions of his hit track "Chaos Theory".  SO do like the track tells you and GET THE "F" UP and get this EP. John Barry starts off the song as the two worlds collide in a cataclysm of DnB, Dub, and DOOOM!

Major Lazer and Flux Pavilion - Jah No Partial ("Mr. Marshall" Single)

What a grooving banger this single turned out to be.  The lyrics in "Ja No Partial" are simply hypnotizing. You can't help but sing the Jamaican lyrics that you kind of hear but it doesn't matter, because by the end of the song, you know them.  What a mash up between two of the best groups in the game, Major Lazer and Flux Pavilion! I herd this release live on Flux's Standing On A Hill US Tour. Ive been waiting for this day for sometime now. Here it is, ENJOY!

FREE DOWNLOAD: Kill Paris - Baby Come Back

Kill Paris - Baby Come Back

OWSLA newcomer Corey Baker, formally known as Kill Paris, is killing the dance music scene with his flurry of 80s infused dubstep tracks that he has been releasing at a scene-shattering pace. His music is self described as panty-soak/dropstep (another genre to argue about?), and his most recent track Baby Come Back embodies this crude title pretty well. Incorporating vocals from the 1997 hit by Player, the track adds a nice dose a growling bass to the mix to create a this unique hybrid sound. Grab a copy of the track below and check out the rest of Kill Paris's tracks on his Soundcloud page.

Hardwell Ft. Amba Shepherd- Apollo (PREVIEW)

After a year of well-received releases, exciting bootlegs and a tour-schedule that would cripple even the strongest seasoned DJ, it is safe to say that the punch behind Robbert van de corpus's premature legacy is no short-lived fad. But still seeing tremendous support on his last solo single, "Spaceman, Hardwell makes his return to unveil it's very follow-up.

Premiered at his Revealed event at club escape in Amsterdam, "Apollo" sees hard well joined by Sydney songstress Amba Shepherd for a concoction of his signature uplifting synth leads and ethereal vocals. Still parking a strong punch within its grinding low-end beats "Apollo" proves itself something of a solid mark  of musical maturity from Hardwell.

Out soon on Revealed Recordings

PS: No, this is not the track featuring porter robinson. The collar with Porter is coming next year.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Alpha Beat - Love Sea (Kastra Remix)

Alpha Beat - Love Sea (Kastra Remix)

Another great remix coming out of a New Jersey producer, this one being from Kastra (did you see my post about Aylen's Follow You remix here?), and its pretty chill. Set to be released with their Love Sea remix EP, this track draws heavily on the indie dance and nu-disco genres and the synths are extremely Madeon-like. Kastra has been killing it with his releases of late, which include an original collab with Xristo called Warning and a pumping remix of Krewella's Alive, and this track is no different. Great vocals along with an energetic buildup give way to a very danceable disco hook that will satisfy laidback and energetic crowds alike. Thanks to Kastra, New Jersey is no longer the laughing stock of the EDM scene (no thanks to Pauly D), so go grab a copy now and support this great up and coming artist.

MUST LISTEN: Junior Kimbrough (Edited by DAFT PUNK) + 2012 wishes Commercial

No, this isn’t new music from Daft Punk’s heavily rumored new album, No End.

Instead, we have…. a mix of blues tracks by Junior Kimbraugh, edited by Daft Punk? Yes, that’s exactly what this is. The robots did this promotional mix for Yves Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2013 fashion show. Now that’s just burning money.

2012 Wish Ad w/ Daft Punk

Publicis Consulting produced a really great "2012 Wishes" video short, singing greeting cards/ Apparently the video was even approved by Daft Punk, who's song was reproduced in the video. Check it out.

KillaGraham - Lifted EP

Killagraham is one of those artists you hear at a party, and you spend the next week figuring out who it was.  This happened to me with Killagraham's Drop It.  This LA-Based producers' song vocals caught my attention. The synths and electro style produced a mesmerizing melody as well as heavy bass.  Enjoy this album, as I have been ever since it came out.

Deniz Koyu feat. Wynter Gordon - Follow You (Aylen Remix)

Remember this massive prog house production by Deniz Koyu? Well it got the remix treatment, this time by the likes of Aylen, a Jersey-born electro producer who has been rising up the ranks and releasing some pretty high profile remixes of late. Like so many producers have been doing lately, Aylen tries his hand at a trap rework of Follow You and does a pretty good job with it. The main buildup remains largely intact, but drops into a trappy electro hook, and its not too shabby. Admittedly, the first drop feels a little abrupt with such a sharp style shift, but the second drop finds a happy place between Aylen's signature electro sound and more traditional trap music. Check the track out below and grab a free download and let us know what you think!

FREE DOWNLOAD: Seven Lions - She Was feat. Birds of Paradise

Seven Lions - She Was feat. Birds of Paradise

After a crazy week of work and travel, I finally got to sit down and check out the vast amounts of music that have been flooding my Twitter and G-Mail accounts. Very quickly I came across a brand new track by Jeff Montalvo, aka Seven Lions, and I got hooked immediately. A self-described trance-dub producer, Seven Lions has burst onto the scene with a handful of huge remixes, most notably one of Florence and the Machine's "Cosmic Love" (which you can also find on his Soundcloud page). As for the track itself, the smooth trance progression in the beginning lulls you into a false sense of security until the glitchy dub kicks in catches you completely off guard. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

FREE DOWNLOAD: Earth Wind and Fire - September (James Egbert Remix)

James Egbert has been exploding into the EDM scene since he first emerged in 2011. With a debut EP, "In the Beginning", and many originals and remixes, he has set a steady footprint onto the electro and dubstep world.

One of my personal favorite classics, "September, was just redone by no other than Egbert himself! It features a wonderful drop that has the signature sounds of James, and then goes on to combine the melody from "September" with rivaling synths and basslines, making sure to implement the amount of funk the original has.

To make this better, he released this as a free download! The DL link is in the description of his Soundcloud.

PREVIEW: Avicii - EDOM (Original Mix)

Avicii - EDOM

I have to admit, the past few months I have been a bit of an Avicii basher; the past few tracks hes released I've thought to be pretty uninspired and cookie-cutter. It didn't help that Salem Al Fakir's vocals in "Silhouettes" make me cringe as nails on a chalkboard never have. HOWEVER, and all-caps, bold, and italics can't emphasis the word enough, this new preview of his track "EDOM" is amazing. The buildup is pure genious. The strings bring to mind the score for The Dark Knight while the keys take on a completely different style from what comes to mind when you think Avicii. For me, its very exciting to see Tim moving out of his comfort zone and experimenting with different styles and I can't wait for its release so we can get all of its melodic beauty. Check it out below and let us know if you liked it/hated it in the comments below.

Free Download! Pretty Lights - So Bright

The latest new single from producer and DJ extraordinaire Derek Vincent Smith, aka Pretty Lights. So Bright features the normal soulful samples and dub electro hip hop fusion... or however he explains it at his live concerts. The track is slow and grooving as you've come to expect from PLM. FREE DOWNLOAD: Bro Safari & ETC!ETC! - The Clap (Will Bailey Remix)

Bro Safari & ETC!ETC! - The Clap (Will Bailey Remix)

We've been pretty spoiled lately by Bro Safari and company; first came his and UFO!'s reggae-step remix of Skrillex's "Make It Bun Dem", now he's releasing a pumping moombahcore remix by Will Bailey of "The Clap". The squeaky synths that have come to be a staple of moombahton are all over this track and they are complemented nicely with the chopped up vocals and growling bass. Overall, a great track by Bailey that will only lend more legitimacy to the rising moombah genre in the mainstream dance scene.

Halcyon: A bird's eye view of Ellie Goulding's new album

Ellie Goulding - Halcyon

Ellie Goulding, the owner of some of the hottest vocals in the electronic music scene to date, is back with her newest album "Halcyon" (which you can purchase here), and she has pulled out all of the stops this time around. Building off her amazingly receptive track, "Lights", Ellie has taken the fundamentals of her music to the electronic world in this album and has nailed it on a number of the tracks. A combination of dubstep, progressive house, and even some nu-disco, Ellie exemplifies the diversity of EDM and gives a preview to its future. If you require some proof, check out her tracks "Anything Could Happen" (including the Blood Diamond and Alex Metric remixes), "Figure 8", and "In My City". As bold as this claim may seem, I'm willing to put good money on the fact that Ellie will be smack in the center of the EDM culture by the new year.

Boys Noize - Out of the Black (New Album)

Alexander Ridha has done it again! Boys Noize fans should be happy with the lastest studio album of the German-born Electro/House artist. This album features a plethera of sounds that should appease any EDM fan. Track #2, "XTC" contains the old breaking beat synth style with a catchy hook that looks to be a club banger for sure. Track #6, "Circus Full of Clowns" caught my ears the other night. Its been on repeat ever since.  Take a listen for yourself and be the judge. I really enjoyed this album!

Check it out at Beatport. Or iTunes!

Madeon's "The City" EP released on Beatport, includes Netski and Fred V. & Graffix remixes

Madeon - The City

Madeon, it is safe to say, has been killing it in the EDM scene for quite some time now. Yea, he's that 18 year old French dude who made that awesome "Pop Culture" video on YouTube, which currently has 14+ million views. He's back again, this time with a couple of his new(ish) tracks, "The City" and "Icarus", along with a couple of drum and bass remixes from the likes of Netsky and Fred V. & Graffix. In typical Madeon style, "The City" and "Icarus" both use those infectious pop synths that just ooze happiness, and the DnB remixes are no different; both largely keep the tracks intact, but with the intricate drum work create an entirely new feel to these songs. Take the tracks for a test spin on Beatport here and be sure to grab a copy of the EP for yourself.

PREVIEW: Feed Me & Crystal Fighters - Love Is All I Got

A few weeks back, BBC Radio 1 released a preview of a new collaboration between EDM-master Feed Me and folktronica enthusiasts Crystal Fighters. Today, Feed Me released a clean preview and also announced that pre-orders for the single, maybe even EP, will be posted soon. On top of that, there should be a music video in the makes, according to his Facebook page.

This track has a very chill, poppy sound to it, and is perfectly topped off at the drop, with a cherry on top. I'll keep you guys updated on when the release of both the song and the video will be. Check out the preview below!

Brown & Gammon - Dirty Doris/Rock Da Beats EP

Brown & Gammon has done it again with this DIRTY release after the How I Feel EP.  Dirty Doris feature a sample from a 1950's swing song it seems! It meshes really well with the BASS come you've come to expect from a member of Circus Records. Enjoy these two excepts from the album. Check it here on Beatport!

Robbie Rivera, David Jones - Volantis (Original Mix)

Producers Robbie Rivera and David Jones have come together and produced an explosive track - Volantis.  This progressive house piece has an electro bass feel with an awesome melody lead line which will not disappoint fans.  Apparently the crowds in Ibiza received a treat when both artists were testing the feel of this track.  It ended up being a huge hit!  Rivera's hometown of Miami, FL has also shows praise for the track thus far, and I'm sure we will be seeing more from this side of the field.  I highly recommend picking this up for your ever growing collection and continue jamming - Beatport.

Steve Angello - Yeah (Original Mix)

Steve Angello - Yeah

So I'm two years behind on this track, huh? Not quite, since Angello has been tweaking and sitting on this track for almost two years now, only to just release it to the public today on Beatport (you can buy it here). Nevertheless, this track is huge; the arrangement is perfectly suited to Angello's anthemic style and the only thing better than the drop is the "Yeah!" chorus chanting throughout the hook. Check it out again and grab a copy today!

SHHHH! (Sander Van Doorn Edit)

I have a Beatport release today from Doorn Records that I think you will all thoroughly enjoy.  If you couldn't guess by the label name, this comes from one of the many master producers out there - Sander Van Doorn.  Sander reigns from the Netherlands and is still a young producer but is quickly rising in the ranks in world fame.  SHHH! (Sander Van Doorn Edit) is officially out.  This track has a great lead tune and killer bass line, continuing his mastery of the art.  I highly recommend you pick this one up to add to your collection - Beatport.

I also recommend that you check out his social feeds for more - Facebook, Twitter

David Guetta Beatport Exclusive Interview

BACK TO BASICS: DAVID GUETTA TELLS US ABOUT HIS JACK BACK LABEL AND BLURRIN THE LINE BETWEEN THE DJ AND POP WORLDS

David Guetta is pretty much the model of success when it comes to electronic music infiltrating the pop world. Last year’s double-disc set Nothing But the Beat featured Guetta producing tracks with Nicki Minaj, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Taio Cruz, Akon, and will.i.am, and those tunes cut huge swathes through both the radio and club worlds, arguably making the Parisian house-head the world’s premier producer and DJ. So how does he keep grounded amidst it all? By starting a back-to-basics dance-tracks-only label called Jack Back (which now counts Nicky Romero, Daddy’s Groove, and Spencer & Hill among its growing roster).
We recently chatted with Guetta to get the lowdown on his Ibiza summer season, what’s in store for the new label, and why old-school house isn’t really that old.

How was the Ibiza summer for you, and how do you keep from burning out while you’re there?
[Laughs] It was really extraordinary, but actually, I live there during the summer, so it’s like my home. What happens is, when people go there for the first time, they go for one week and go out everyday non-stop because there’s always a party going on. I can’t do this anymore. I did it the first year, but I just live a normal life there now.

So what are the more relaxing things you do to retreat from the party life there?
Well, Formentera is very beautiful.

I’ve heard you say that Jack Back has no intention of selling records or making money, and I guess I want to know firstly, are you serious?
Of course! I don’t do this for the money. I have no commercial ambition with it. I do this for the love. Yes, I want DJs to buy the tracks on Beatport and play them out, but Jack Back is not about making radio hits. Because I play a lot of those beats that I produce or co-produce with friends or hear something that I really love and want to be able to put out. That’s what it’s about—sharing this music with other people, and also being able to show a different side of me. I’m also happy to be able to push people like Nicky Romero or Daddy’s Groove. This new record ["1234" by Spencer & Hill] is huge when I play it—it’s one of the biggest records that I’ve been playing this year. And it’s from Spencer & Hill, the guys that are making some of the best synthesizers and sound banks in the world—Vengeance Sound. It’s exciting.

How did you find Spencer & Hill?
I think they found me. They just sent me their record and I really, really loved it. The reaction was so insane, so I decided to release it on Beatport.

Are you afraid that anyone will confuse it with Laidback Luke’s “1234“?
The thing is, this track is called “Uno Dos Tres Cuatro.”

I guess that’s a fair enough distinction. It seems pretty clear that starting Jack Back is a return to your DJ roots, and I wonder, what other kinds of small projects are you planning with this—I’m not gonna call it a new direction exactly, but what is the next plan?
Well, it’s not a new direction because a lot of people, when they hear me play, they’re surprised. I’ve always played a combination of electronic beats and my big records. And even my big records I play in a way that’s not like what you hear on the radio—it’s different. So it’s a way to show maybe something they didn’t know about me. And my album Nothing But the Beat was a double album—one was all electronic, and one was only songs. I’ve always had two sides, and to be honest, I don’t even believe there’s two sides, because for me, there’s only two types of music: good music and bad music. I don’t really make a difference between the emotion that I can have when I make a song or when I make a club beat.

So in terms of Jack Back, are there other small projects on the horizon?
Yes, actually, I’m going to be in the studio with Nicky Romero for four days, so I’m sure a lot is going to come out of that.

With wanting to keep a foot in the DJ world, but having such huge success in the pop world, too, do you ever feel like you struggle with that?
Well, I don’t feel like I’m struggling. My DJ shows are some of the biggest of any DJ in the world—I wouldn’t call this a struggle.

No, I mean more in relation to the old-school guys—amongst other DJs do you ever feel like you get any pressure to push back from the pop world, and sort of remain more in the DJ world?
I don’t see any opposition between the pop world and the DJ world, and not only that—it’s probably the opposite. Every DJ, including old-school DJs, as you call them—people that created house music—a lot of them come to see me and thank me for opening the doors, and I think that is making life easier for all the DJs, including underground DJs, so I never really felt that kind of reaction. When I feel something like that, it’s never from professional DJs; it’s from kids that are not actually from the scene, who are just starting to buy records.

With your involvement in French house over the years, and how it remains a big influence on the music you make now, I wonder, do you have any interest in, say, assembling a compilation of the classic tracks to further introduce the sound to new ears?
To be honest, I’ve always looked toward the future. So for me to put together a compilation of old French house, it would be almost crazy because it’s not even old [laughs]. I was a DJ before house music existed. I was playing funk, new wave, reggae—there was no such thing as house music. So if I was gonna do a compilation one day, it would maybe be of stuff from that moment—when I was playing soul, etc. For me, it’s more exciting to release records from Nicky Romero than stuff that’s been released already.

You played Electric Zoo recently in New York and I was wondering, how you do feel the vibe differs from big festivals in the US these days to the ones in Europe?
Things are changing a lot in the US. You know, a lot of the festivals, they feel a little bit like old UK raves, which is kind of fun—people dressing up and using DayGlo and stuff. And the really banging sound, you know—the harder stuff. But it’s fun to me; it’s not a problem at all. I’m just saying it’s a little bit like what we had in the ’90s. It’s changing right now, but in America, when you do something, you do it big. So it takes you a while to get there and embrace the culture, but when you do, you do it big, big, big. It’s wonderful. But it’s funny—that music was born in the US, and I can remember playing the first house music records in ’88. I started one of the first house music parties in Paris, actually in France, and I would play all these records coming from the US, and some coming from England, but house music and techno was American music. It stayed really, really underground in the US, and then it evolved into something more mainstream in Europe. And now it’s coming together and it’s incredible.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Skrillex feat. Damian Marley - Make It Bun Dem (Bro Safari & UFO! Remix)

Bro Safari and UFO

Another track from Bro Safari and UFO! fresh into the interwebs this morning. This time its a remix of Skrillex's polarizing reggae-step track "Make It Bun Dem". If you were looking for a groundbreaking remix, this track will fall short; most of the melody and high leads remain intact, but the drumbeat is much more intricate and dubby, making this a little more downtempo and trappy. Still haven't decided where I stand in terms of the original but this is definitely something worth checking out, especially if your Thursday-night hangover precludes you from listening to some harder stuff on your way to work this morning.

FREE DOWNLOAD: PAZ & PrototypeRaptor vs Feed Me - Cott's Face(Bootleg Remix)

I've been following a lot of PrototypeRaptor's stuff for a while, and I have gotten used to a lot of his "Mord Fustang 2.0" style of electro house. However, this bootleg of Feed Me's famous "Cott's Face" with rapper PAZ proves that he can step out of the box with insane dubstep/hiphop. The added piano chords and glitched vocals adds much to this track, along with PAZ's fast and aggressive rap. I except to see a lot more of experimentation from the producer in the future.

Get the track for free from the button below! Also, check out his Soundcloud for more generous free download links!

Flosstradamus - X EP Pt. 1of3 Free DL

Enter Flosstradamus! These Chicago heavy bass hitters are probably my favorite new producers in the game.  They are single handedly injecting TRAP into their brand of electronic smash! Flosstradamus's Autobot and J2K are respected by their peers and admired by legions of fans for their expertly blended cross-genre contributions. And the Floss is certainly "something they do like." Enjoy the first of three releases in the coming week.

Halo 4 Soundtrack to include Official Remixes by Alvin Risk and KOAN Sound

Halo 4

What could be better than epic alien shootouts? How about epic alien shootouts set to the monster moombah beats of Alvin Risk or melodic bass music of KOAN Sound? Following in the footsteps of Mortal Kombat, which got a "Reptile's Theme" remix courtesy of Skrillex, Halo 4 is going electro, and with some pretty awesome tracks. First up is Alvin Risk's remix of "Nemesis", featuring his signature laser synths and moombahcore sounds, which can easily be mistaken for in-game effects. The next track, a "Green and Blue" remix by KOAN Sound (pronounced Ko-Anne), is much more downtempo and melodic. While I love Alvin's sound in general, I can't help but favor a great ambient track such as this. The full Halo 4 soundtrack will be released on October 22nd.

PREVIEW: Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love

Calvin Harris
Here is another leaked track from Calvin Harris's upcoming "18 Months" album set to be released on October 29th. Add Ellie Goulding to the dizzying list of collaborations for "18 Months" that already includes Florence Welch, Ne-Yo, Example, and Kelis. This track is vintage Calvin, incorporating pithy synths and an Afrojack-esque bass with Ellie's signature vocals to create yet another radio hit. This will also be released with Goulding's new album "Halcyon" on October 9th if you aren't in the mood to wait. Check it out below.

Bassnectar
If you are looking for something to get you over hump day, I have found it in the form of 45 minutes of slamming bass courtesy of Bassnectar. Yea you remember that guy, the one who made "Bass Head"? You've probably got a t-shirt that says just that. Anyway, he's back and in preparation for his "Freestyle" EP due out on October 16th, he has put together a mixtape that is choc full of unreleased original tracks and remixes. There is a little bit of everything going on, from Bassnectar's signature bass wobbles to trap and reggae. The only thing you won't find in this mixtape is a bad song.

MONSTA - Holdin' On (Skrillex and NERO Remix)

MONSTA-Holdin' On

Here is a huge remix of electronic trio MONSTA's "Holdin' On" by Nero and Skrillex. One of the newer acts signed to Skrillex's OWSLA record label, MONSTA consists of two producers, Rocky and Rufio, and one vocalist, Skaar. The soulful vocals combined with their heavy drum n' bass style give their original tracks a distinct Pretty Lights feel with the energy of a more traditional drum n' bass or dubstep act. However, Nero and Skrillex blow the lid off this track, incorporating Skaar's vocals into a drumstep remix that shows off the best of both Nero and Skrillex. If you think the first drop is crazy, wait for the second one.

Swedish House Mafia - Don't You Worry Child (Tom Staar & Kryder Remix)

Swedish House Mafia - Don't You Worry Child

EDIT: the iTunes link I had originally was for the Original Mix, no release date has been set for the remix as of this edit.

Can't get enough of DYWC? Check out the first official remix of the track, done by Tom Staar & Kryder. While the original is a little more bubbly and uplifting, Staar and Kryder have set the bar high for other producers and put a much darker spin on it, slapping John Martin's wonderful vocals over a some hard hitting chords. Check it out below.
