Beatport: Hardwell & Showtek – How We Do (Original Mix) Hardwell is dope.  Showtek is the dangerously talented duo behind some huge tracks, but haven’t really seen the same notoriety in the U.S. as other major DJ/producers of their caliber.  Looks like they decided to do something about that with this little collab.  Great track.  And after further review of their pages, Showtek has an enormous international following.  They make raw dutch hard style (a.k.a. unlimited head).

With three festivals spread across the globe in this final weekend of July, it seems apparent that the summer season might be coming to a close! However, with that being said, the curtain definitely is not falling without a bang. Over in Poland, The Sunrise Festival brought the likes of Deniz Koyu, Gareth Emery, Michael Woods, the Bingo Players, Fedde Le Grand, and Chris Lake to a thumping mainstage. Wolfgang Gartner – Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind EP

After a weekend of nonstop action at Identity Festival, Wolfgang Gartner got down to business this morning and dropped a two-track EP on Beatport. My initial reaction to Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind is a resounding mehhhh; there are no big, infectious melodies a la “Redline,” “Flexx” or the inimitable “Illmerica” here, and while that’s not automatically a bad thing, the clean, simple and repetitive game has been played to more kinetic and spectacular effect elsewhere (ex: Afrojack’s “Pop On Acid;” Wolfgang’s own “Space Junk”). Maybe it’s just that I’m aggressively not feeling the whiny loop at the beginning of “Girl on Boy” (can’t help but think that Alvin Risk would have done something better there) but these tracks just don’t seem to go anywhere that interesting. But who knows, maybe they’ll wind up being awesome live. We shall see, I guess. Check out the EP and let us know what you think.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – Tomorrowland Anthem 2012

When a festival is sold out in less than 10 minutes you can imagine the tremendous hype in the days leading up to the festival. Along with the festival comes a summer anthem.  The tune “Tomorrow Changed Today” was named the Tomorrowland Official Anthem of 2012 and comes from Belgian brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike.  The song emits a festival vibe with peaks of energy and a melodic flow that leads into a drop that’ll get the world jumping.  “Tomorrow Changed Today” was made available to the public today on Beatport. I’m proud to say that it features Datsik’s old-school wub wub wub sound, much like you’d hear in the days of No Escape and Retreat. A man that needs no introduction, Avicii (Tim Berg), is a household name to not only those in the EDM scene, but to anybody who’s basically ever heard electronic music before… Whether that be a good or bad thing is up for you to decide, not I.

Anyways, I have recently been listening to some of his older productions/remixes/bootlegs and I stumbled across one of my old favorites from him. The bootleg, Abow vs. Sex on Fire, samples the acapella of Kings of Leon’s famed “Sex on Fire” over Avicii’s own song”Abow.” While it may be old news to some, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of euphoria every time I hear this song; With its trance/chilled-out/epic feel, it’s a wonderful song to listen to after a long day.
